Energy.
Subject: Where’s Your Energy Going?
Hey everyone,
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on one key thing: energy. Where is my energy going, and what’s giving it back to me? Life operates in cycles, and so does our energy. We wake up each day with a fresh start, a reset, but what we do with that energy during the day really matters. Some things fill us up, while others drain us. And often, we’re not even fully aware of it.
Andrew Huberman says, “Sleep is the foundation on which all mental and physical health is built.” It’s the most obvious place to start. How are you sleeping? Is it restoring your energy, or are you waking up still feeling exhausted? Good sleep is like a reset button for your body and mind—it replenishes the energy you need to face the day. But sleep alone isn’t enough.
Think about what you’re giving your energy to throughout the day. Are you spending it on things that lift you up or things that bring you down? For example, connecting with loved ones, exercising, eating well, and doing meaningful work—those things often give energy back. But then there’s the other side. The constant scrolling on social media, binge-watching TV, stress from overworking, or even just being caught up in negative thought cycles—those things drain us.
Energy management is key, not just time management. It’s easy to fill up your day with tasks and commitments, but if you’re not mindful of where your energy is going, you might end up feeling burned out. Social media can be tricky—sure, it connects us, but too much of it can drain your focus and leave you feeling mentally drained. Same goes for unhealthy food choices or skipping out on regular exercise. These habits may seem small, but they can have a big impact on how much energy you have left by the end of the day.
On the flip side, investing time in things like learning something new, spending time outside, or building connections with others can actually boost your energy. It’s about finding a balance, being mindful, and making sure that what you give your energy to is worth it.
Here are some questions to help you reflect:
• Where is your energy going each day?
• Is what you’re doing giving you energy or taking it away?
• How are you sleeping, and is it truly restoring your energy?
• Is overworking leaving you burned out, or are you balancing work with rest?
• Are social media and TV habits giving you joy, or are they draining your focus?
• What activities or habits are helping you feel energized and motivated?
The more we understand where our energy is going, the more intentional we can be with it. Energy is everything. It fuels how we live, how we feel, and how we interact with the world. So, take a moment to analyze your life. What’s fueling you, and what’s draining you? You have the power to redirect that energy and focus it on things that help you grow, rather than things that hold you back.
Best,
Matt
